Leading Plans Continue to Grow

Strategic Accounts | Research Released August 2017

The Leading Plans Continue to Grow in Size and Importance

Seven plans currently insure over half of the U.S. insured population; the top three insurers (United, Anthem, and Aetna) cover 36% of the insured lives in the United States.

The leading health plans will continue to look for additional opportunities to grow both organically and through M&A activity, especially following the rejected mega-mergers of 2015.

These and other findings can be found in Health Strategies Group’s recently released research Portraits of the Leading Health Plans. This research includes portraits of seven of the leading health plans: Aetna, Anthem, Centene, Cigna, Humana, Kaiser, and United.

Key questions answered in this research:

  • Who are the leading health plans and what are their enrollment trends?
  • What are the strengths and weaknesses of each organization?
  • Which health plans will survive and thrive?
